  1. Uh... how do you register for a Message Board account?

Good question, because it's not that simple. Here's how: Click on the Register here link at the top of the board lobby. Read the "Forum Acceptable Use Policy" bullshit, and if acceptable, click on the Accept button. Enter the appropriate information in the required fields (noted with a red asterisk *), enter whatever profile and preference settings you wish to provide at this time, and then (now this is where it gets tricky) click the Submit Registration button.

You must enter a real e-mail address because that is where your password will be sent. If you register with a fake e-mail, you can't get your password. (You can't pick your initial password, but you can change the password after your account is activated by logging in and then clicking on the User Menu link and selecting Change your password.)

Yes, I know precious, it's very confusing.

  2. What's with all the sarcasm? I understand that first part, but I don't see any Register here link, or I get the message, "Registration is disabled by the administrator."  What gives?

Occasionally, registration is closed for maintenance and at those times the Registration page will be disabled. Don't worry - if you keep hitting Reload enough times, eventually the link will work.  The registration closures rarely last more than 4-5 days.  Until then, we sincerely regret that we will all be deprived of your bountiful pearls.

  3. What's with all the sarcasm? I understand that first part and the second part, but for some reason it won't accept my registration. What does "anonymous e-mail" or "invalid e-mail" mean?

We are not accepting registrations from any free e-mail addresses (e.g. hotmail.com, yahoo.com, or respectthepussy.com).  We are elitist snobs who spit on the poor.

  4. I somehow managed to register and I received a password, but when I try to login, it says my account isn't activated.  Hurry and activate it, you slackers!

The registration process is not immediate. You won't be able to login and use your account right away. New registrations must be manually activated by the admins of the board. This can take up to several weeks (cya).  DO NOT CREATE A SECOND ACCOUNT!  We will delete them all rather than try to sort out for you which one you want to keep.  To find out if your account has been activated, just try logging in with your user name and the password sent to you.  No notice will be sent to notify you that your account has been activated.

One person, one account. (We are elitists, but egalitarian elitists)

And no, e-mailing the admins will not get you activated sooner.

  5. It's been more than a couple of weeks, and it's still not activated. Do I have bad breath or something?

Probably, but that's not why you're not yet activated. We won't activate every registration request. We won't activate your account if:

    -You already have an account.
-You have had an account that was removed from the board.
-You used an anonymous e-mail address.
-You chose a name that we know is already taken (e.g. you can't have "damitoll").
-You chose a name that we feel is too offensive (e.g. "marrymecara") or too trite (e.g. anything with cast member names, or titles of the shows, or froufy names like "smurfie").
    -You are from Pittsburgh.

  6. I forget, what's my password?

Please don't e-mail us asking for your password, because we won't tell you. However, you can get a new password sent to you by using the password retrieval function on the login screen: Click on the Login icon, then click on Click here to retrieve your password, then enter your user name and the current e-mail address for that account, and a new password will be sent to that e-mail address. Remember that the password is case-sensitive.

    Are you writing this down?

  7. I don't mind using a non-anonymous e-mail address to register, but I don't want any of the many mentally unbalanced individuals at PlånetSocks to see it.  Is there nothing I can do?

Your e-mail address will not visible to anybody else unless you put it 'on shout' yourself.  Other board users can still email you through a link on your posts but without your email address being shown to them.

  8. I still can't register. What do I do?

Do nothing, please. If you still can't figure out registration, that's good, because we don't want you here anyway, brainiac.
